Profile

Shanan G. Gibson, Ph.D., joined the O’Maley College of Business as Dean and Professor of Management in April 2020 after having served as the Dean of the College of Business at Texas A&M - Commerce for nearly three years. Prior to this, she was the Associate Dean for Student & Faculty Development in the College of Business at East Carolina University (2012 -2017) where she was a member of the ECU faculty for 16 years. Shanan earned both an MS (1998) and PhD (2001) in Industrial & Organizational Psychology from Virginia Tech.
Shanan’s passion centers on student success and the transformational power of education. She enjoys exposing students to the myriad career opportunities related to the Business of Flight. Her favorite courses to teach focus on building entrepreneurial skills and adding value through an organization’s best competitive advantage – its people. Her research focuses on topics relevant to human resources and organizational development including job analysis, technology acceptance in organizations, and entrepreneurship.
Her research can be seen in the Journal of Small Business Strategy, Business Education Forum, Small Business Institute Forum, and Management Research News, among others. Shanan enjoys consulting on human resources related topics within the manufacturing and insurance industries. She served on the U.S. Social Security Administration's Occupational Information Development Advisory Panel from 2009 - 2012. Prior to joining East Carolina University, Shanan worked in sales and corporate medical education.
